Transforming
Public Dialogue About Families
One of Dr. Stephanie's primary visions is to transform public
dialogue about what is a healthy family versus a dysfunctional
family. Many families believe that if they seek assistance,
this means that they are dysfunctional, or that someone is "mentally ill". By contrast, Dr, Stephanie wants
to communicate to American families that the healthiest
families (not the most dysfunctional families) seek assistance
and maintenance for family life. Just like well-running
automobiles need good maintenance and service for optimum
performance, so do our families require maintenance and
assistance in order to reach their potential.
Where do families (you) go for assistance? Where do
families turn when they need some guidance or they want to
maximize their family relationships and build even greater
closeness? Dr. Stephanie's services are centered around facilitation rather than just therapy. Therapy means "to treat a
disorder." Dr. Stephanie believes most families are not disordered.
Many families are missing out on the consultation and guidance
that is available from facilitation services because they are
unaware of these new possibilities. Facilitation is just the
thing that is needed to keep families vibrant and healthy,
especially in the midst of change and transition.
