“I believe that life is a journey and learning about one's self and patterns empowers a person to more fully appreciate who they are and realize how to make good changes in their lives, reach their goals and create more satisfying relationships” C. Wood

MY SPECIALTIES…

Adolescents, Adults and Seniors

As an experienced psychotherapist I have had the privilege and honor of successfully helping people overcome life's difficulties/adversities addressing the following areas:

Anxiety

Depression

Unexpected and expected life transitions

Low self-esteem

Teen Problems/ Adjustment Issues

Anger Management

Grief and loss issues

Health and Aging concerns

If you are considering counseling I want you to know that I am non-judgmental, accepting, respectful, and believe that a caring, trusting therapeutic relationship is the most valuable factor in assisting you and relieving your emotional pain.

I am interested in you and will encourage you to share your story , your concerns and your problems. Working together can promote deeper awareness; understanding and new insights that can change your patterns of thinking, feelings, and interacting which can help eliminate your emotional turmoil/pain while enhancing your relationships with your family, spouse, friends and co-workers. In addition, I try to inspire hope, joy, humor and meaning in one's life that can be applied in day to day living. Remember we sometimes need help to gain a different perspective but you do not have to do it alone.

Marriage Counseling

I strongly believe in marriage as current research supports that marriage is still the best type of relationship to fulfill your emotional, physical, and social needs. Therefore, if you and your spouse are seeking professional help to not only stay together but have a mutually satisfying relationship you will appreciate that I do not align myself with either spouse as it is your relationship you want healed. The marriage relationship is like a bridge connecting two islands. However, if the bridge has been damaged over time and then ignored, it can still be repaired especially with new skills and dedication because it is this “bridge of communication” that cannot be allowed to falter.

I will work diligently for you, focusing on both of your needs/goals, staying committed to your success. I will challenge you to increase your empathy and acceptance while focusing on how you interact with each other, thus increasing your ability to effectively address your identified problem area(s). So, once again you look forward to seeing and being with one another.

Most of my marital interventions are based on the empirical research by John Gottman PhD. from the Gottman Institute on Research and Restoring Relationships and Couple Styles developed by Barry McCarthy PhD, as I have found their work to be the most helpful.
