Domenica Carrese, M.S., LGMFT
Therapy is a journey that takes work and courage. I believe it is an honor and a privilege to walk alongside clients and help to create meaningful changes in their thoughts, feelings, or actions as they examine their lives.
As a marriage and family therapist, I consider people’s contexts, or systems, from a smaller scale, such as family, friends, and intimate relationships, to a larger scale (sociocultural aspects) and how these factors intersect and influence your life. Even though I am specially trained in relational work (couple and family therapy), I also see clients individually.
I work with various issues, including communication, conflict, intimacy, anxiety, depression, and chronic illness. I have advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy, an empirically validated model that has been shown to create lasting change in couple relationships.
My approach is holistic in that I consider the mind-body connection to be an important part of therapeutic work, because we cannot disconnect these parts of our experience. From anxiety, to tense interactions with loved ones, to trauma, our physiological experience is critically connected to our mental and emotional experience, so I find it important to integrate multiple perspectives in my work for all-around healing.
I hold a B.S. in Biopsychology from Mount St. Mary’s University and an M.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Virginia Tech. I am a Licensed Graduate Marriage and Family Therapist (LGMFT) in the state of Maryland.
