Benefits of Couples Therapy and Marriage Counseling

Many partners are able to resolve problems that they are having arguments about, including problems related to trust, communication, in-laws, finances, parenting and sex. In some cases, people are even able to resolve past infidelity, domestic violence, or addictions that have plagued the marriage.

Partners learn how to repair problems right in the therapy session so that they are better equipped to resolve future problems without attending more sessions.

People can prevent separation and divorce – saving money, heartache, and emotional consequences for their extended family, children, and community.

Partners are taught behaviors and attitudes that help lead to a more successful relationship, according to the latest relationship and marriage research.

Couples develop a positive relationship with a professional, so that if future problems arise they have someone objective and knowledgeable that they can turn to for help.

If partners are unsure about staying committed to the relationship, the counselor will not make a decision for the couple, but will make recommendations and discuss concerns to help guide them towards making a good decision.

Even if partners choose to not stay together after attending therapy, many people find that the skills learned will still benefit them in future relationships. In many cases, people say that they have more peace of mind ending a relationship after seeking professional guidance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cost of Couples Therapy with a Relationship Repair Associate?

Costs can range anywhere from $10 – $225 per one hour session, depending upon the experience of the therapist that you select and whether your health insurance covers the cost of therapy.  To keep the cost affordable for your budget, some people attend therapy every two weeks or once per month, and they still make progress and improve their relationship! Some insurances do not have a benefit to pay for couples therapy or marriage therapy.

What is the cost of a Couples Therapy Private Intensive Retreat with Dr. Stephanie?

The cost of a Two-Day Intensive Private Retreat is the same cost as approximately 4-6 Months of Couples Therapy with a Highly-Trained Couples Therapist.  It is $4000.  The cost includes:

  • Online Gottman Couples Checkup Assessment Before the Intensive Retreat
  • One Hour Consultation Interview Prior to the Intensive Retreat (Online or In-Person)
  • Two Hours Assessment During the Two-Day Intensive
  • Ten Hours Intervention During the Two-Day Intensive
  • One Hour Follow-Up Appointment After the Intensive

The cost of a One-Day Intensive Private Retreat is the same cost as approximately 8 weeks of Couples Therapy with a Highly-Trained Couples Therapist.  It is $2700.  The cost includes:

  • One Hour Consultation Interview Prior to the Intensive Retreat (Online or In-Person)

How many sessions do we attend?

For many of our clients, six to eight session is the ideal amount of time needed to reach some of the therapy goals to improve your relationship. However, it is ideal for couples to attend more sessions for relapse prevention.   We don’t want couples to relapse and fall back into old habits and patterns.

What are the Benefits of a Couples Therapy Intensive Private Retreat with Dr. Stephanie?

There are many benefits of a Two-Day Intensive Retreat:

  • Dr. Stephanie believes that intensive couples therapy is more effective than traditional hourly appointments and research is currently being done to prove the Effectiveness of Intensive therapy for Couples.  Dr. Stephanie requires her Couples to complete the Gottman Checkup Assessment before and after the Therapy Intensive to Measure Results and Effectiveness.
  • It can be hectic and stressful for Couples to take partial days off work to attend therapy appointments.   It can be easier to get child care set-up for two days and/or request two days off work rather than navigating the scheduling of weekly appointments.
  • Sometimes a one-hour appointment can be emotionally painful and then the client has to go back to work possibly with a problem that feels unresolved.  With an Intensive, a client can focus all their attention on improving their relationship.  By the end of the day, problems will feel more resolved whereas in a traditional one-hour appointment it is more difficult for your therapist to help you fully resolve a problem due to time constraints.
  • Often during traditional weekly therapy, issues may arise between sessions that prove to be distracting to the good progress you may have been making. The Intensive two-day focus on your relationship decreases the chance for distraction.
  • Your therapist is able to solely focus on you without the distraction that a regular day of therapy brings for them as a professional.  There is a focus on working through a treatment plan that is developed in advance of your Intensive Retreat.
  • The Retreat allows for time to complete communication exercises with your partner that will repair your problems and improve your communication and intimacy, with less distraction on weekly concerns that happened between a weekly hour-long session.
Are weekend and evening appointments available?

Some of our Relationship Repair Associates may have some evening or weekend appointments, however it may take longer for you to get an appointment.   Evening and weekend appointments do book up more quickly.

Dr. Stephanie only hosts her Private Intensive Retreats during business hours on week days from 10 am – 4pm.  Most couples plan two personal days off work for the Intensive.

How can I trust that you will not side with my partner when we are having arguments?

Your therapist will take the side of your relationship. So sometimes, we may urge one of you to make changes for the benefit of your relationship success. However, your therapist will explain the reasons for any recommendations. In most sessions, you will find that your therapist will make suggestions for how each person can make changes that will benefit the relationship.

What training do you have?

Dr. Stephanie received both her Master’s Degree and Ph.D. specifically from AAMFT programs, and she specialized in Marriage and Family Therapy. She has also attended countless workshops and seminars to continuously improve her knowledge, including completing training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy and she is a Gottman Certified Couples Therapist. In addition, Stephanie supervises all of the therapist associates who are currently working at various Relationship Repair Shop locations.
